I began my volunteerism close to home while attending dental school and working in the UW-Gainesville Clinic and several other community dental clinics.  I often volunteered on the weekends at Gainesville Community Ministries, a dental clinic providing assistance to the elderly, the disabled, and the “working poor” who are vulnerable to economic crises and have fallen between the cracks of other programs.  On a weekly basis for two years, I volunteered at ACORN dental clinic, a facility with six dental chairs and a two chair oral surgery suite.  The clinic provides free dental work to low income patients.
