Venezuela’s government is having a rough time.  Inflation is soaring, there are huge food shortages, and Caracas is ranked the second most dangerous city in the world with kidnappings happening often.

9. Russia

Why do people believe it’s hard to visit?

USA and Russia have been at ends with each other for years

Why Visit?

Russia has so much influence in the current world and is the world’s largest country by land mass.

How to entered –

The 2nd time I was “visiting” Russia was just a 16 hours transit stop and I didn’t want to be stuck in the airport.  I went to the Russian visa processing center in Singapore and gave them my transit visa application.  The lady said “why don’t you apply for a 3 year multiple entry visa?  It is the same cost.”  After learning more, she told me, “You need an invitation letter so just go to this website and pay $15 and they will get the letter to you in 2-3 days and then come back here with that”.  I did exactly as she told me to do and got a 3 year multiple entry visa.

It has no airport and one must enter from either Russia or Georgia

Why Visit?

Where else will you take a horse and buggy to cross the border?  It’s a place that very few non-russian tourists go

How to entered –

I sent an email to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Abkhazia a few weeks before my trip and a week later they sent me an invitation letter in Russian.  I used that letter at the border between Georgia and Abkhazia which allowed me to enter the country.  I then went to the Consular Department in Sokhumi (the capital of Abkhazia) to get my official visa.

5. PitCairn

The smallest country in the world – just 50 people

Why do people believe it’s hard to visit?

There is only a few boats a year that go to the island country of 50 people.

Why Visit?

One of the most isolated places on earth.  You can easily meet everyone in the country.

How to entered –

Visa is available on arrival for many countries.  I contacted PitCairn Immigration and reserved one of the 12 spots on the ship which took 2 day ship to Pitcairn.  I had to fly to Auckland, New Zealand and then fly to Tahiti, French Polynesia, and then I had to make sure I didn’t miss the once a week flight from Tahiti to Gambier Islands.  At Gambier Islands I then took the 2 day ship to Pitcairn which rocked and swaying that I got really seasick (along with everyone else)

3. Antarctica

Antarctica in the middle of the summer – still freezing! You can see the village/city behind me.

Why do people believe it’s hard to visit?

It’s fricken cold and very hard to get to

Why Visit?

One of the most isolated places on earth.  Learn what it is like to live in a place that is completely dark for two months of the year and freezing all year round.

How to entered –

There are two ways to visit Antarctica – a cruise boat or flying.  I’m work full time job so taking a two week cruise to see Antarctica for 1-3 days was not worth it for me.  I decided to take a flight instead.  I just contacted DAP airlines and booked a flight to Antarctica.  I arrived 6:30pm the night before and the following day we flew.  Flights very often get cancelled so I was lucky.  As soon as I arrived back in Punta Arenas from Antarctica I took a connecting flight making me the most efficient Antarctica tourist ever.

2. Nauru

Japanese guns in the jungle of Nauru

Why Visit?

It’s way different than the movies make it out to be.  I loved it.

How to entered –

I figured getting a visa was probably going to be very difficult and that Afghanistan was very dangerous so I decided to get a transit visa because surprisingly enough – Afghanistan has their own airline Safi airlines.  I arrive at 6am and leave the same day at 8pm – therefore never being in Afghanistan when it was dark out.  Well, when I applied for the transit visa they gave me a one year, multiple entry tourist visa.  I guess they must really be desperate for tourists.
